Swingarm, clean

Teleporting back in March 2015 - The swingarm is reacting rather well to a thorough clean. Look at that shiny result. It's good to see it back to this form. Even with its rusted areas, it's beyond expectations.

What comes unexpected from this cleaning session though lays in how my vision has changed on this very part. Back when I had my first Hornet, I always considered the swingarm as a basic, poorly-engineered part, but time spent removing the filth out of it changed this consideration from bland to mostly overlooked. Okay, it's still a box-section, direct shock mount swingarm (which, with experience, is not that much of a bad choice with a good shock), but it's lightweight and the front section looks neatly CNC-machined.

Kid's race

This pic caught my eye on the always classy website the other day. I think I may still have this Playmobil Police rider somewhere.

Read the whole story there if you're interested or just curious. It's all about subscribing to a race event where your kid will compete on his balance bike ... dressed with your kit (helmet and all).

Airbox and carbs (part 3)

By the end of January 2015 - Carburetors are back from Max Power and look cleaner as ever. Time for a photoshoot before they get on the Hornet again.

Fixing the dash

January 2015 - Like pretty much every else on the bike, the dash looks tatty and could do with a good clean in order to restore its long gone shine. Now it may only be covers made out of plastics, but they always end up like they are rusted somehow. So part of the shine is now back, but there are still pitted areas here and there.

Before the required TLC treatment
And after
Well since the instruments are opened, why not check for burnt bulbs ? They are rather easy to find in any car care store, but you should always check the output power (3W or 5W) so the replacement bulbs look like the others once lit and do not heat too much in their socket.

Another cheaply restored part that'll certainly make the bike look fresher.

New parts

January 2015 - Among what was damaged on the bike were the grips and air filter. Grips can be obtained as Honda genuine parts from Wemoto and since they were doing an action on KN filers, it's been added to the cart as well.
